I am still trying to get my Windows 7 released Enterprise version clients to inventory using OCS 4032 client. My server is a Suse SLES10 server running OCS server version 1.01. I have 3900 computers invetoried. I ran OCS client on Windows 7 beta and had no problems. I did not even have to change the way it was installed. Now that we have Windows 7 released version it is not working the same. If I install it the same way and run my batch file to force an immediate inventory the computer does not inventory. I have managed to get one test computer to inventory but it has only inventoried once over a month ago. That client has been on continuously until today and yet only inventoried once. A reboot did not force an inventory. I hae the computer set to inventory every time.
When I managed to get the Windows 7 box to report I had turned off the firewall completely and added an exception in the firewall when firewall was running.
Is there anything different that should be done to get Windows 7 computers to consistantly inventory? Should OCS be installed differently?
Thank you.

Hi,
Can you please try the 4061 agent (the one from OCS 1.3). Can you also take a look on the error log of the agent?

Hello Goneri.
I do not see any error log and service.ini is counting down (from 27000 in this case). Both the data file (from October 16) that did report to the server on that data and the history file are also October 16. I again have the Windows firewall completely turned off.
Is there any problem with running a newer client than the version running on the server? If so, where do I get build 4061 of the client?
Thank you.

I think it's safe to use a newer agent with an older server. You can get directly it in the Download section (OCS 1.3 (beta)).

Hello Goneri.
I did load 4061 on 2 Windows 7 computers. As I stated before, the only way I seem to be able to get any of them to report is to completely turn off Windows firewall. An exception in the list does not do it.
I also noted that on the one that I have firewall turned off I no longer get to see the Windows Key. It reports it as all B's instead of the actual key.
I did note that the large number of network and bluetooth addresses listed for Network in past versions is gone which helps get rid of the duplicates list that are not really duplicates.
As a side note, I am running version Linux version 1.01 on the server and am starting to see a duplicate in the HOSTNAME list that has no duplicate! In looking at the record there is nothing that would flag OCS to list it as a duplicate to another computer by hostname. I had not run into that until this week.
I have not been able to load 4061 on a Vista computer to see if it fixes the problem that initiated this request (non standard characters in the hostname that OCS puts in the drop down list but then can not find it in a search). Also I get the same type of hostname on some of the MAC computers. Is there a new version for the Macintoshes that will fix that too?
Thank you.

Can you elaborate on non-ASCII characters in hostname problem? It's the first time I see that. Can you give some example.
Cheers

Non ASCII would not be correct but I frequently see computer names such as Chris’s Mac but when referring to operating system the Vista computers show up as

Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Enterprise
and
Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Business
These go into the drop down selection box when searching for "Operating System" or at least the Vista titles do (not the computername/hostname) and yet if either of those Vista titles are selected no computers matching that criteria are found and yet they do show up in the full inventory list otherwise they would never appear in the drop down selection list.

In trying to search for Chris’s Mac or Jonathan Walker’s Mac mini for Computer Name nothing is found and yet that data was directly copied from the search by operating system "Mac OS X" and pasted into a search query for Computer Name EQUALS

My point is that there is data in the field but when using the exact name/text for "Chris’s Mac" or "Jonathan Walker’s Mac mini" or several other computer names which can be copied right out of the list the search finds nothing matching that criteria. Searching for the operating system "Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Enterprise" or "Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Business" also finds nothing and yet they are in the list.
Your question to me asked for examples for hostname search but the example applies to both search by Computer Name and by Operating System as data shows up in that field that is not searchable, at least not successfully.
Thank you.

I also have to know about the way of elaborating on non-ASCII characters in hostname problem.... @goneri, If you get some of this example, please inform me... I want to get Windows 7 released Enterprise version. How can I get it easily?
