I've installed the ocs inventory agent on most of my windows machines, and am now dealing with the few Macs in the building. It seemed to install ok, but I wasn't given the choice (like in windows) to change the name of the server from ocs-inventory to my the ip address of the server (192.168.3.10). It said something about editing the /etc/ocs-inventory/client file. Where is this file? How do I find it? Thanks.

There two solutions:
1) hit command g in the finder then type /etc and you will be able to get access to the etc folder. Find the OCS folder then use textedit to modify the ocsinv.conf file. Modify the OCSFSERVER field to contain the IP address of your server.
2) If you don't want to make that modification each time you install it. Download the source code. Make the change, and any others you want; then repackage it and deploy it that way.

Thanks for your user friendly reply - I was able to find the /etc folder. I opened up the ocsinv.conf file with the text editor and made the change. But... it is saying it is a read only file and modifications can't be made. Now what? Thanks!

I found directions great also found the file tried to edit with result unable to save. Found out why in OSX you need to edit ETC at the root user level. A tech doc on Apple site and was able to edit the file http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106290
